Self Defense at the Ice Cream Parlor

People always ask if I’ve ever used Krav Maga or my fight training in real life situations. At a younger age, I used a lot of the punching/kicking/etc in situations. However, I’ve only been in two situations where I’ve actually used Krav Maga self-defense moves.

A little while ago was the first time I was in a situation, where I actually used some of my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/MMA training: I was at Cookies n Cream Hollywood (www.thecookiesncreamhollywood.com) with Daniel Wahlgren (aka Papa Dee) and two girls from Sweden, who were visiting. All of a sudden, a man comes walking in, walks straight up to one of the girls and so politely says “B*tch, give me your money”. At first, I thought he was joking. However, after taking a quick look at his dress code, I realized that they probably weren’t even Facebook friends…the guy was clearly out of his mind, most likely on either crack or meth. I stood up and asked the not-so-gentleman to leave. He said he would, as soon as he got his money from the girl.

For a split second I thought “I don’t want to punch him, because I don’t want blood all over the store but what should I do?” I quickly put him in a RNC (rear naked choke). I told him not to fight and to stay calm but he didn’t, so I saw no other way but to actually put him to sleep. As he woke up, I dragged him out of the store and asked him not to come back (not with those words). To be honest, I was very concerned the whole time with keeping his hands out of his pockets, since I was never sure if he carried any weapons. This is, after all, Los Angeles and weapons are almost as common as Iphones.

The story ended well and I’m glad noone got hurt and that the police didn’t have to get involved. On that note, however, I wanted to take the opportunity to welcome everybody to Cookies N Cream‘s Grand Opening Party this coming Saturday! Ps. on a side note, if you google Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it is the 3rd topic that pops up on Google autofind, only to be topped by Brazilian Blowout and Brazilian Wax….in case you were wondering….

     Haha, true! I’m getting better at this writing thing! In retrospect, it’s funny, as a lot of stories tend to be.
