D-town

Detroit. D-town. Rough, rigid, and known by many as the a**hole of America. We’ve all seen “8 miles” with Eminem and put our hands up for Detroit at the club. But Detroit is so much more: It has a lot of history (for American standards). Many may know that it’s the home of Motown music. Also, that it is the heart of the automotive industry, with both G.M. and Ford having their roots here. Maybe even that it is the home of famous boxer Thomas “the Hitman” Hearns; first man to win 5 world titles in 5 different weight classes. However, did you know that Detroit is located north of Canada? Or that it is the highest chips consuming state in th U.S? Or even that it is the only place in the world where you can find a floating post office?

It’s nice to be with family (although I won’t get to see my one brother this Christmas) and it’s my first time back here in 6-7 years I think. One of the last time I was here was when I was planning on joining the U.S. Army; sitting on an army base with a 4-year contact in front of me, ready to sign. Everything happens for a reason and today, I’m glad it didn’t work out that way.

6 days of rest (after some serious chaos at the airport – read my tweets at http://twitter.com/#!/MarcusKowal for a good laugh) is well needed after a crazy year of traveling! Yet, the traveling isn’t over yet – I’ve still got UFC: Lesnar vs Overeem in Las Vegas with StudioMMA to look forward to and some training at Xtreme Couture with all the boys up there and Kamal Shelorus, who is getting ready for his battle at UFC on Fox in Nashville. Then back to LA for a wedding with my boys from Holland on the 30th.
